PTSD

Updated: May 25, 2020

PTSD It's a disease that effects thousands of our American soldiers and their families every day.

It's a disease that's not treatable and often unfortunately overlooked.

Imagine this.

You say goodbye for four years, just praying nothing will happen to him.

You wait by the phone for a call, look in the mail for a letter, and pray everyday two men in their dress blues don't come knocking at your door.

Four years pass and you think you have him back, but what comes next is the ugly truth that will put the past four years to shame.

You stare at him, and he stares back... But behind his smile ...is emptiness.

A man searching for a home, standing on egg shells, literally a fragment of what he was before.

The deterioration of his mind, body, and soul are slow.

Red flags are there, but in hindsight you never knew.

His mind traveled a million miles per hour, he could never sleep.

Late night phone calls, crying because a helicopter flew over his home.

He relives the nightmare over and over and over again.

In this scenario you learn that less is more.

You grab him, hold him, and hug him while you share your tears.

Run-ins with law enforcement, and a blacked out memory he couldn't even recall.

This entire time you still stare into his eyes wondering when his transition will start to smoothen out, but those wonders soon turn into fears.

A late night FaceTime.

All you can see is a man in distress, crying, begging for you to come over.

Except this entire conversation he didn't speak a single word.

Oddly enough that night was the last time I could recall feeling like my brother was back to his old self.

But then it gets worse.

10 months....missing... Calls from as far as the east coast thinking they spotted him.

3 arrest in a months time span.

This is when your wonders that have turned into fears are beginning to come true.

The only thing you can hope for is that he doesn't hurt himself or anybody else.

Now, I wait 10 more years because those wonders that turned into fears, turned into worst nightmares.

PTSD a disease worse than war.

He may come back, but he's already dead inside.

You stare at a man... Soulless but it isn't his fault.

He was stripped of living his life, but was forced to stay on this earth.

All you can do is pray, and keep faith... Because who knows one day I know Jonny will be back!!!

Get your rest bro, we'll be back on top soon enough! I love you!
